Shahroze Suzuki has a Masters, M.Phil. in Professional Psychology from Bahria University Karachi Campus in Pakistan. He has accumulated clinical experience working in services employing psychiatric treatment models as well as those that offer psychological therapies and interventions.

Shahroze served as an associate psychologist at The Recovery House, a rehabilitation center located in Karachi that caters to individuals suffering from drug addiction as well as those who have been experiencing mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders. Shahroze was responsible for rehabilitating clients through group therapy workshops as well as providing one-on-one counseling sessions and assessments.

Shahroze has also worked at Karachi Psychiatric Hospital, a leading institution for psychiatric consultation in the region where he worked psychologically, alongside psychiatrists, to provide holistic forms of treatment to both inpatient and outpatient based clients. Shahroze primarily treated clients with learning disabilities, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorder, as well as those clients in need of help with anger management, relationship management and sleep disturbances.

While working at Umeed-e-Nau, he came to understand the need for colleges and universities to have dedicated onsite counsellors, a model already common in some countries, and this led to him collaborating with a local college to create its first mental health department; the very first time that any college had an onsite counsellor in Karachi.

After the COVID19 pandemic hit, Pakistan had its first registered online counseling platform called SaayaHealth where Shahroze served as an online counsellor.

In his clinical work, Shahroze utilizes a variety of therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Humanistic therapies, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), play therapy as well as gestalt therapy. Shahroze’s experience has led him to understand that therapy may be daunting for some clients initially and it is important to make therapy a safe place, without judgement and bias. Shahroze strives to create an atmosphere of acceptance with the client from the first session so that they can start their journey of mental health with utmost confidence.

What does Shahroze specialize in?

Shahroze specializes in cases that involve mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder. Alongside mood disorders, he has extensive experience with clients who need help with anger management, emotional awareness, self-confidence, exam anxiety, career anxiety, and relationship management. He also has experience working with individuals struggling with obsessive compulsive disorder and a variety of phobias. With regards to children, Shahroze has worked with children on the autism spectrum and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Does Shahroze offer online or face to face counselling?

Shahroze offers both online and face to face counseling as he understands the importance of each and how what they offer differs. In his opinion, face to face counseling allows the therapist and the client to develop greater rapport. The therapist has an opportunity to gather information about the client from up close that is not afforded by online platforms

Online counseling however provides better access, convenience, privacy as well as safety to those who may not prefer in person interaction that much.  Online counseling also offers a lot more flexibility in the manner in which the client is accommodated which allows the client to feel more comfortable with their therapeutic journey.
