How Do I Get A Psychology Assessment At Tokyo Mental Health?

You would need to start by making an initial appointment for a consultation with one of our psychologists. To make an appointment, please use the booking form below, or use the following email address: [email protected]. One of our staff will reply to you within 48 hours. Psychology Consultations

The psychology consultation will review your concerns and screen for your symptoms. The purpose of the psychology consultation is to highlight areas of concern and provide the psychologist clinical context to inform and guide further recommendations. Practically, this involves answering questions during an interview and completing standardized questionnaires.

What does the process look like once I confirm a psychology consultation appointment?

You and/or your child would have an intake interview and complete a series of screening questionnaires. Once completed, the psychologist would contact you to discuss the results, and advise you on what to do next. They may suggest for you to proceed with a full psychological evaluation, that you see one of our counselors, or that you follow up with a psychiatry appointment at a clinic, based on your needs. This consultation can be completed online or face to face at our Shintomi therapy office.

Full Psychology Evaluations

If you and/or your child needs a full psychology evaluation to assess a suspected problem with attention, learning, memory or social communication and interaction, then we can offer full, UK/US standard psychology evaluations with a report. This would typically include:

  1. A series of interviews – to take a full developmental history, completing additional evaluation measures, and the administration of behavioral tests. Please note, however, that the contents and duration of this stage may vary depending on the needs of the individual.
  2. Feedback – Once the psychologist has scored and reviewed your results and information, they will arrange a feedback appointment with you at a convenient time. This would typically occur approximately a month after your last appointment. The psychologist will meet with you to go through the outcome as well as discuss the specific recommendations. You will also have an opportunity to discuss and ask questions.
  3. Following your feedback appointment, the psychologist will send you a comprehensive psychological report, which will include a summary of your concerns, your results and outcomes, as well as a series of recommendations.

What are the benefits of having a psychology evaluation?

Depending on the type of assessment, the benefits may include:

  • A comprehensive learning profile to highlight developmental abilities Strengths and weaknesses, and identify personalized learning needs
  • Rich information about current levels of functioning
  • Accurate formulation of any mental health problems
  • A deeper understanding of any problematic behaviors
  • Highlighting areas in need of additional support and evidence-based recommendations for accommodations in school
  • Targeted goals for treatment/intervention planning
  • How to incorporate client’s strengths into treatment planning
